Obituary: James Woodrow Fristoe

James Woodrow Fristoe died at Carson-Tahoe Hospital on Thursday. He was 83.

He was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Columbia, Mo., to Robert Fristoe and Dona Craft.

A Silver Springs resident for 33 years, he was a retired heavy equipment operator and was a past member of Operating Engineers Local 3 in Reno.

Mr. Fristoe served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in which he flew 30 missions as a ball turret gunner in B-17s with the 8th Army Air Force, 388th Bombardment Group. He received three Air Medals, two Bronze Stars and a Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mr. Fristoe is preceded in death by two stepchildren, David LeRoy Olson and Lorraine Olson Lark and his sister, Lucille.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna, of Silver Springs; sisters Dorothy, Lillian and Clarice, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Burial will follow.
