A memorial service for John Houston Binkley, 87, a Silver Springs resident for the past 48 years, will be held at noon Friday at the Silver Springs Christian Center followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Fernley Veterans Memorial Cemetery with an honor guard.
Mr. Binkley died Sept. 19, 2002, at his home. He was born May 23, 1915, in Puryear, Tenn., to John Clay and Lula May Story-Binkley.
Before moving to Silver Springs, he lived in Alameda, Calif.
Mr. Binkley worked for seven years for Briggs Manufacturing in Detroit, Mich. and 40 years as a building contractor. He was a private pilot for the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Unit. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Restoration Church in Fernley.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to1946.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Adella Joan Lenschmidt Binkley, Dec. 16, 1999, and sister, Myrtle May Binkley-Shark, Nov. 25, 1979.
Among his survivors are his wife Geneen Walton-Langen-Binkley of Silver Springs; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Tiny of Madera, Calif.; stepsons Gene Langen of Arizona, Derrill Langen and wife Judy of Missouri and David and Casey Langen of South Dakota; grandchildren Kerri Binkley-East and Brian Binkley; two great-granddaughers; 11 step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Reno Memorial Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
