Billie Ray Mauldin, 75, died Sept. 23, 2002, at Pacific Tahoe Hospital in Sparks. He was born April 30, 1927, in Fort Cobb, Okla., to Clifton Alexander and Mary Taylor Mauldin.
Mr. Mauldin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard an amphibious landing craft. After the war, he moved to Barstow, Calif., to work as a diesel mechanic for the Santa Fe Railroad. During his time in Barstow, he also worked for the California Highway Patrol as an automotive technician, owned and operated several service stations and served on the city council. He was a former Optimist member and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Family Church of Carson City.
After he retired, he moved to Cedar City, Utah, and then to Dayton. He loved the outdoors and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Ruth.
Among his survivors are his wife Caroline; sons Bruce of Yreka, Calif. and Mark of Santa Rosa, Calif.; stepson William Roberts of Apple Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
No memorial service will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
