3 lost snowboarders found in the cold

Three teenage snowboarders from the Santa Cruz area were found safe, cold and exhausted Friday night after they ventured out of bounds from Sierra-at-Tahoe's East About run, the El Dorado County sheriff's deputies reported.

A county search-and-rescue team of eight volunteers assisted 10 Sierra ski patrollers to find the teens. The ski patrol was called at 5 p.m. The girls were found at 7:15 p.m. on the ridge line near Huckleberry Flat, west of Audrain Lake.

The teens were released to a guardian. They have not yet been issued a citation for going out of bounds, but the incident is under investigation.
