A Mass of Christian burial for Daniel Richard Walsh, 71, a Carson City area resident for the past 43 years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Mr. Walsh died April 4, 2003, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Spokane, Wash., to Patrick Henry and Agnes Marie Walsh.
He received his juris doctorate from Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane.
He married Marguerite Annette Egardie on Aug. 15, 1959, in Spokane.
Mr. Walsh served in the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge.
He was a Catholic.
Mr. Walsh was a law clerk for the first Alaska Supreme Court and later for the Nevada Supreme Court. He was chief deputy attorney general for the Nevada Attorney General's Office, handling important cases, including the state's first civil-rights cases. As chief deputy, he was legal counsel to the University of Nevada System for seven years, before entering private practice.
His private practice spanned 33 years, the past five of which were with his son Kevin P. Walsh as Walsh & Walsh.
Mr. Walsh was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Martindale-Hubbell Book of Preeminent Lawyers for the highest degree of ability and ethics.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert Walsh of Portland, Ore., and Patrick Walsh of Spokane; and sisters Betty Koefod of Carson City and Patricia O'Brien of Portland.
Among his survivors are his wife, Marguerite of Washoe Valley; sons Daniel R. Walsh Jr. of Carson City; son Kevin P. Walsh and daughter-in-law Dawn of Carson City; daughter, Kelli Walsh Melchiorre and son-in-law Vincenzo Melchiorre of Sausalito, Calif.; sister Mary Coffey of Carson City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
