Nominees sought for community awards

Nominees are being sought for the fourth annual Community Awards sponsored by the Nevada Appeal and Carson Access Television. Awards are given in recognition of residents' outstanding achievements during the past year.

Awards are presented in eight categories:

-- Student of the Year

-- Educator of the Year

-- Artist of the Year

-- Athlete or Sportsman of the Year

-- Boss of the Year

-- Employee of the Year

-- Humanitarian of the Year

-- Organization of the Year

Nominations must be postmarked or e-mailed no later than April 16. They must include a written description of the activities, talents, achievements or contributions that would justify the award. The more detailed, the better.

The address for nominations is Nevada Appeal, PO Box 2288, Carson City, NV 89702. They may also be e-mailed to editor@nevadaappeal.com. People sending nominations should include their own name and telephone number, so they may be contacted for additional information.

Advertisements with entry forms are appearing several times a week in the Nevada Appeal.

Residents anywhere in the Nevada Appeal's circulation area are eligible for the awards.

Members of the Nevada Appeal's reader panel and CAT-10 board will narrow the list of nominees to three finalists in each category. The award winners will be announced at a luncheon May 23 at the Carson Nugget.

Community Awards sponsored by the Appeal and CAT-10 began in 2000, although they stem from a 30-year tradition of the Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce.

2002 Community Award winners were Employee of the Year, Paula Guzman; Boss of the Year, Denese Doherty; Sportsman of the Year, Ron McNutt; Artist of the Year, Michael Williams; Student of the Year, Deborah Crounk; Educator of the Year, Katie Pollock; Humanitarian of the Year, Seeliger Elementary School Staff; Organization of the Year, Carson City Kiwanis; special recognition, Bonnie Nishikawa.
