Obituary: Walter Reinecke

A funeral for Walter M. Reinecke, 76, a Minden resident for the past 21 years, will be at 2 p.m. today at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Gardnerville.

Viewing was Monday.

Mr. Reinecke died April 11, 2003, at home. He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Chicago to Merton and Effie Reinecke.

Before moving to Minden, he lived in Zephyr Cove; Citrus Heights, Calif.; Oro Valley, Ariz.; and Park Ridge, Ill.

Mr. Reinecke was a police officer with the Park Ridge Police Department for 21 years, retiring in 1976. He worked for Harrahs Lake Tahoe for 12 years.

He loved automobiles, traveling and reading books on World War II history. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, U.S. LST Foundation, the National Republican Party and the D-Day Museum. He was a Protestant.

He served in the U.S. Navy from July 29, 1944, to June 14, 1946, in the South Pacific.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce.

Among his survivors are his wife, Marlene of Minden; son and daughter-in-law, George and Dianne Gregareo Reinecke of La Quinta, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Greg Masek of McHenry, Ill.; grandson and wife Mathew and Jennifer Reinecke; grandson Aaron Merriell; granddaughter and husband Heide and Eric Elmer; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington, D.C.
