Foul play unlikely in Carson woman's death

Foul play is not suspected in the death of a Carson City woman found unconscious in a motor home outside a grocery store over the weekend, a detective said Tuesday.

Crystal Hoy, 23, died at Carson-Tahoe Hospital on Saturday after she was found about 9:50 p.m. unconscious in the motor home parked in front of Safeway in the 2000 block of North Carson Street.

Detective Pete Grimm of the Carson City Sheriff's Department said Hoy's boyfriend and owner of the motor home, Ronald Doer, 32, told officers Hoy wasn't feeling well when he went inside Safeway to play slot machines.

When he returned two hours later, he found Hoy on the floor of the motor home. According to police reports, Hoy had no signs of life when paramedics arrived.

"It doesn't appear to be foul play -- for now," Grimm said, adding a drug overdose is a more likely scenario. "She was on a lot of medications and there was an empty bottle nearby." He said he is awaiting toxicology reports to determine if drugs were the cause of Hoy's death.

In an unrelated incident, Doer was arrested the following day after an officer spotted his motor home without a license plate.

According to the arrest report, Doer was stopped at 8:40 p.m. Sunday on Highway 50 East. When the deputy searched the motor home with Doer's consent, a green case was found behind the driver's seat containing "two spoons with white residue on them, four hypodermic devices, a container with what appeared to be three 'snort tubes,' a small amount of green leafy substance and a pipe."

A box with different types of prescription pills was also found.

Doer was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony possession of a prescription drug without a prescription, misdemeanor driving without a valid license, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a hypodermic device. Bail was set at $5,475.
