California partnership set to build Fernley hotel

A partnership planning a 60-room hotel at Fernley likes the area's growth potential along with its manageable development costs.

Construction on the Holiday Inn Express is expected to begin in about 90 days, said Dr.

Sunil Patel, a northern California physician whose familyowned partnership is developing the property.

The project is planned for completion in the summer of 2004.

"Our goal is to go to the emerging markets," said Patel, who previously developed a hotel property at Globe, Ariz., east of Phoenix.

The Fernley hotel will be managed by family members, Patel said.

He said the group is looking at other sites in northern Nevada and projects that it might build three or four hotels in the region in coming years.
