OUT AND ABOUT

The Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors brought An Evening of Wine and Roses back to the Governors Mansion, where it will be held next year. Organizers should be very proud of the $48,000 raised to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Northern Nevada V&T Railroad Museum.

Make-a-Wish Foundation executive director Jan Mackenize said the event will help children that are waiting for their wishes to be granted. After eight weeks of chemotherapy, one little boy wants to be in his favorite TV show, "Scrubs." With all the community help and of course Toni York of Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors, a wish like that one can come true.

Tuesday is National Night Out,t presented with the help of the Carson City Sheriff's Department, Nevada Highway Patrol and the Carson City Fire Department. Come down to Mills Park and enjoy free hot dogs and soda while our dedicated professionals in law and fire safety demonstrate tips to keep your neighborhood safe. If you can't make it, then leave on the porch lights and get to know your neighbors to help keep your street crime free. Sheriff Kenny Furlong is really getting involved with community awareness and pride.

The "Big One" Rummage sale is Saturday. This is not your typical rummage sale, but will have same hidden treasures. It will be at the old Nevada Appeal building on Bath Street so come join the fun with Sunset Rotary Club.

The club will accept school supplies to be donated to the Tools for Schools Backpack Program. Carson Costco employees will be again donate backpacks throughout Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties for homeless children. Last year, Costco distributed more than 400 backpacks, which their employees filled with goodies. If you know a child who might qualify, please call the number below.
