State Treasurer Tufly was at his office yesterday. During his illness, he lost 30 pounds, but looks healthier than the newspaper reporters of this city. J. Edwards attempted yesterday to cap some loaded shells -- and nearly lost his hands in the explosion.

100 YEARS AGO

If satisfactory arrangements can be made between the Tonopah and Winnemucca baseball teams, it is more than probable that Carson will have the pleasure of seeing one of the hottest games of the national sport that has taken place in the state in a number of years. [This was for the state championship, with a purse of $2,000.]

70 YEARS AGO

George W. Painter, early Nevada pioneer, 89, from Oakland, visited George Meyers and R.K. Colcord. He served with Meyers in the Civil War and was in the hauling business, buying goods from Meyers and freighting them with mule team to Bodie. He later bought the Mono County Bank and ran it until 1888, when he moved to Oakland.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City candidates for Indian Queen Nevada Day Florine Brazzonvitch, of the Paiute Council, and Lois Ruppert, Washoe, will attend the Mother Lode Fair and be interviewed by KTRB radio of Modesto.

20 YEARS AGO

Military news: Brian S. Reeder, son of Judith A. Reeder of Carson City, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to airman first class. He is at Nellis Air Force Base, 554th Transportation Squadron.

10 YEARS AGO

After years in the making, Western Nevada Community College's 7,000-square-foot Family Services Center will open Oct. 4.
