Obituary: Robert L. Ward

Graveside services with military honors will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday for Robert L. Ward, 81, an eight-year resident of Fallon.

Mr. Ward died Aug. 8, 2003, at the Life Care Center in Reno of natural causes. He was born June 26, 1922, in Galt, Calif., to Tyrell and Tina Daniels Ward.

Mr. Ward attended school at Oak View Grammar School and graduated from Galt High School. He spent two years in Stockton, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He trained at Fort Douglas, Utah, where he learned to fly the P-51s and P-38s. He served for two years, returned to Galt and joined the Air Force Reserves, where he served for eight years.

He owned a trucking business for a few years before moving to Carson City. For the next 40 years, he lived in the Carson City and Reno areas where he worked for Sanford Tractor Co., which was later named Cashman Equipment. He retired as general manager after 38 years.

After retirement he moved to Lake Almanor, Calif., where he lived until 1995.

He was a member of the American Legion Carson City Post.

Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law Dan and Kay Ward, grandson Sean Ward and granddaughter Alexandria Ward all of Fallon; son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Gail Stevens of Sparks; daughters Margaret Stevens of Reno, Kathleen Stevens of Carson City; grandchildren Scott, Mark and John Stevens, Kim and Michelle Hall; brother and sister-in-law William and Virginia Ward of Galt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations in his memory may be made to Friendship House at the Veterans Hospital, 1000 Locust St., Reno, NV 89502.

The Gardens Funeral Home in Fallon is in charge of arrangements.
