SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- A November trial date was set for Steve Weissinger, a Gardnerville resident and Douglas County Commission chairman accused of three counts of misdemeanor embezzlement while employed as a supermarket manager.
Weissinger's appearance was waived for Friday's hearing, where a trial date of Nov. 3 was scheduled along with a pretrial conference on Oct. 30.
He is scheduled to appear for the October hearing.
Weissinger has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which span a three-month period.
On June 13, Weissinger was approached by Raley's Supermarket security for allegedly taking a $100 bill from a store safe. Prosecutors believe they have the evidence of two other incidents. In total, Weissinger is accused of taking more than $1,000, said Hans Uthe, assistant district attorney for El Dorado County, in a past interview.
William Cole, Weissinger's attorney, said he is waiting for the Crescent V supermarket's surveillance videos. Weissinger said placing the $100 bill in his pocket was a simple oversight. He has said he's eager to prove his innocence.
"We hate to set it out as far as we did but you have to accommodate the court," Cole said.
Weissinger, who is keeping in contact with Raley's, is currently no longer with the store, employees said. Cole said he is representing his client on the criminal matters and is not trying to get his client's job back.
"That is with him and Raley's," Cole said.
Weissinger remains on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, where he has served since 1996.
