Margaret Teresa Sumner

Margaret Teresa Sumner, 79, a Gardnerville resident for the past year, died Dec. 7, 2003, in Gardnerville. He was born April 5, 1924, in Monterey Park, Calif., to Frank and Anna Harris.

She attended elementary school in Lewiston, Idaho, and moved to San Jose, Calif., when she was 13 where she attended schools and graduated from San Jose High School in 1941.

She married Clarence "Red" Sumner July 31, 1948, in Saratoga, Calif.

Before moving to Gardnerville, she lived in San Jose, Lodi, Calif., and Coos Bay, Ore.

Mrs. Sumner worked for the retail clerks union in San Jose as a foods demonstrator, for Paul Hudson's Jewelers and J.C. Penney Co. in Lodi. She was a homemaker after her retirement. She enjoyed the mountains, cooking, reading and tending her rose gardens.

She was preceded in death by sisters June, Anne and Irene and brothers Frank, Larry, Rusty and Cecil.

Among her survivors are her husband of Gardnerville; daughters Susan Robinson of Fair Oaks, Calif., Jeanne Todd of San Jose and Diane Pollock of South Lake Tahoe; brothers Harold Harris of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, Chuck Harris of San Jose and Ed Harris of Springfield, Ore., and four grandchildren.

A private family service will be held with a memorial service to be announced.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
