Carson City's bridge club had five potential places to relocate by Friday afternoon thanks to the quick work of city officials and local business people.
Carson City planning staff and the Carson Area Chamber of Commerce have been working to find places for the Carson City Bridge Center after the Carson City Regional Planning Commission on Wednesday denied the club's request to remain in an industrial park location.
Director of Planning and Community Development Walt Sullivan and chamber Chief Executive Officer Larry Osborne said they have calls in to club directors Robert and Roberta Anderson and hope to meet with them next week to go over the options.
So far, sites interested in providing space for the senior card club include the Eagles Hall, the Elks Hall, the Brewery Arts Center, Carson City Senior Center and Western Nevada Community College.
"We'll find a place probably within the next week," Osborne said. "There is something positive about all of (the places)."
The 60-member bridge club asked the city's Planning Commission for permission to continue playing three times a week out of the space they rent in the Airport Industrial Park until they could find a new home.
Roberta Anderson said they were unaware their club was not allowed to operate out of the space and was not in compliance with the industrial zoning.
Several industrial tenants and city staff recommended denying the request, which commissioners did.
The couple can appeal the decision to the city's Board of Supervisors at its next meeting, but Sullivan said has spoken with Robert Anderson since the meeting and he thinks the couple's intention is to see what other places are available.
The Andersons could not be reached for comment Friday.
