Gardnerville's 125 birthday committee starts party planning

Members of a committee to plan Gardnerville's 125th birthday party next year have been chosen and plan to meet Wednesday.

The Gardnerville Town Board meets at 4:30 p.m. today in the Town Hall, 1407 Highway 395. Approval of a committee to plan the town's 125 birthday celebration next year is on the agenda.

The committee is made up of two board members, two members of the Gardnerville Business Association, and two town residents, said Town Manager Jim Park.

If approved, the committee will meet at noon Wednesday in the conference room at the Town Hall.

Town founders John and Mary Gardner first established themselves in the Carson Valley in April of 1879. But the community birthday party probably will be planned around warmer weather.

Party events could include a community barbecue, a town history exhibit at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, and possibly a time capsule.

In other business, the board will consider:

-- a draft plan of the Douglas County Comprehensive Trails Plan; part of the county's 1996 Master Plan, the Comprehensive Trails Plan identifies trail heads and linkages to provide safe, outdoor off-road opportunities;

-- clarifying the street closure policy approved last month for special events and outdoor festivals at Heritage Park;

-- possible alignment of an irrigation pipe in Phase 13 of the Chichester subdivision;

-- new signs at Gardnerville's south entrance.
