The faro games here are not reaping a very rich harvest during this session of the Legislature, the members of which are principally non-gambling men. The tiger seems to be losing flesh daily. If the present cold weather continues for several days, there will be good skating at Washoe Lake.

Weather summary by J. H. Smith of the Weather Bureau Station: Greatest amount of precipitation recorded in any 24 hours was 1.42 inches on Feb. 16-17, 1897. Greatest amount of snowfall in any 24 hours, record extended to winter of 1884-85 only, was 14.4 inches on Feb. 17, 1887. Highest velocity of wind was 70 miles from the southwest on Feb. 21, 1890.

Sen. Scott wants a constitutional amendment to remove the provision barring a person from holding office who participates in a duel and a clause giving women the right to hold office under certain conditions, eliminated by extension of suffrage.

50 YEARS AGO

Third annual Birthday Ball given by the Lions Club in commemoration of Carson City's anniversary and for the benefit of the March of Dimes will be held Saturday in the civic auditorium.

20 YEARS AGO

Silver Peak: Dr. Richard Bargen, the "Flying Doctor," will set up shop in a bar in this remote central Nevada mining town because health officials are removing the trailer that serves as a medical clinic. He flies from Fallon to isolated communities.

10 YEARS AGO

Reflections, a program sponsored by the national PTA, announced local first-place winners Rachel Hallett, literary; photography, Jorge Pierot; and visual arts, Candice Bell. All three places receive money and a ribbon.
