Judge removes self due to conflict

A Carson City judge recused himself Thursday from hearing a case involving the sheriff's daughter because he's close to the family.

Justice of the Peace John Tatro will turn the case over to Justice of the Peace William McMorris, who will hear it in two weeks.

Kendra Furlong, 22, was arrested by Tri-Net Drug Task Force officers Jan. 21 after they allegedly found a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in her Roop Street apartment.

Furlong's father, Sheriff Kenny Furlong, was elected in November.

Tri-Net officers went to Kendra Furlong's home at about 1:30 p.m., received permission to search, and found trace amounts of meth and two glass smoking pipes.

She has remained in the Carson City jail on suspicion of felony possession of meth and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bail is set at $10,000.

Also arrested was Timothy Coffman, 24, a felon and transient, for possession of a firearm. According to reports Coffman was in the home and had a loaded .22-caliber pistol. He is being held without bail.
