Survey: Educator workshops effective

Teachers who attend a seminar put on by the Nevada Mining Association think more highly of the industry.

So much so, in fact, that nearly all of them would recommend a mining career to their students.

The association provides free two-day workshops which includes mine tours to teachers throughout the state.

A survey of 1,000 of the teachers who participated during the past three years found that 49 percent of them have better perceptions of the industry after attending one of the workshops.

A whopping 98 percent, meanwhile, said they'd recommend a mining career to students.

Russ Fields, president of the association, said the group is "definitely pleased" with the survey results and plans to continue conducting the workshops.
