International duo performs piano recital at BAC

Serious music lovers will have a double helping Sunday at Brewery Arts Center's Performance Hall as duo pianists Alexander Tutunov and Kristina Foltz return after enchanting audiences as soloists on the Carson City Symphony's "Carnival of the Animals" concert last year.

They will perform a two-piano recital at 2 p.m.

Tutunov, graduate of the famed Moscow Conservatory, is an associate professor of music and director of keyboard studies at Southern Oregon University. He performs widely in the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and the United States, and recently performed in Russia, China and Mexico.

Tutunov was born in Vitebsk, Belarus. He entered the Central Music School at the famed Moscow Conservatory at age 7, one of three children chosen out of 200 applicants, then graduated magna cum laude. He also holds diplomas in concert performance with honors from the Minsk Musical College, University of North Texas and the Belarussian National Academy of Music.E

Tutunov won first prize in the Belarussian National Piano Competition and won the Russian National Piano Competition. He has performed widely in the former Soviet Union, Poland, Bulgaria, the former Czechoslovakia, China, Mexico, and the United States as a recitalist

His recent recordings include a concerto for piano and orchestra by Peter Sacco with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and he is under contract with Altarus Records to record the complete solo piano works of Lev Abeliovich.

Foltz performs internationally as a recitalist, chamber musician and

concerto soloist and was an artist-ambassador in Europe. She

teaches and performs in Barcelona, Spain, and Ashland, Ore., where she is artistic director of the SOU International Piano Institute.

Foltz made her first concert debut at 12. In 1997, Rotary International awarded her a full scholarship to serve as an artist-ambassador in Barcelona.

Her awards include a Theodor Presser scholarship, winner of the Rome Festival Orchestra National Soloist competition, semifinalist in the St. Louis Symphony International Young Artist's Contest and first prize in the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra Concerto contest.

She has performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Utah. In Spain and Italy, she has been featured soloist and accompanist in music festivals and other venues.E

Her recording, "Souvenirs from Spain," (Bravissimo Recordings), available on MP3.com, has been played on radio and Internet radio worldwide.
