Nevada Division of Forestry Capt. Rich Riolo is hosting a series of television programs called "Fireline" outlining how residents and the NDF can work together to save homes and tax dollars spent fighting wildfires.
Riolo said he wants to work with homeowners to reduce the risk of their homes becoming fuel for a wildland fire.
The program will air at 6 p.m. Thursday for Carson City and Dayton viewers on Channel 10, and in Carson Valley, Minden and Gardnerville at 8 p.m. Thursday on Channel 26.

The first edition of the program, produced by Carson City's Pro*Star Productions, will explain why and how residents should create defensible space around homes and which agencies can help.
"The most difficult thing I do each year is tell people without defensible space around their property that their home can't be saved," said Riolo, of the NDF Fire Prevention Bureau.
The survival of homes in a wildland fire depends on how well residents prepare before fire season, he said.
"After the devastating fires in several western states in 2002, we know there are many people concerned about the threat of wildfire," said Riolo. "If you are one of those people and you want help in protecting your home, please call to schedule an evaluation of your property. There is no charge for an inspection, and I would rather talk to you now than when a wildfire is at your back door."
Riolo said the program covers the same information he presents during home evaluations.
