Obituary: Richard "Dick" Carver

A memorial service for Richard "Dick" Carver, 58, will be at noon Friday, starting in Smoky Valley High School'S gym in Hadley then proceeding to the community center.

Mr. Carver died Jan. 9, 2003, in Nye Medical Center. He was born Oct. 13, 1944, to Gerald and Jean Carver and spent most of his life in Smoky Valley.

He operated a small ranch and worked his bulldozer. He was a Nye County commissioner for 13 years and a champion of public lands and the multiple uses of ranching, mining and recreation.

Among his survivors are his mother, Jean; wife, Midge; three brothers; one sister; six children, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
