Col. C.G. Lyon made a most eloquent and stirring appeal before the Board of Pardons on Tuesday last of nearly three hours' duration. Those who heard him state it was a splendid effort. Assembly Bill No. 31, an act to consolidate the counties of Washoe and Roop, passed.

100 YEARS AGO

While on the way to this city from Carson yesterday afternoon with a load of hay, one of the horses attached to Dan Dangberg's big wagon caught its shoe on the railroad crossing at American Flat and tore off the hoof at the ankle joint. the animal, which was a valuable one, had to be shot -- Chronicle.

70 YEARS AGO

Full apology for statements considered disrespectful to Miss Margaret E. Mack, dean of women at the University of Nevada, has been printed in the Daily Californian, University of California student newspaper. The student editor had stated that Dean Mack was a frequent visitor to a Reno resort.

50 YEARS AGO

Dolores Haffey of Virginia City replaced Paul Laxalt's secretary Roberta Parker in the district attorney's office today. Miss Parker had left for a stenographic position in the governor's office.

20 YEARS AGO

Carson City issued 583 building permits during 1982, down substantially from 660 issued in 1981. Total value was up, $20,367.288. Only 60 were for single family houses.

10 YEARS AGO

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is attempting to begin a future mission congregation in the Dayton area. They will begin by forming a Bible study for citizens in the area.
