Obituary: Melvin Green

Melvin Everett Green, 75, died Jan. 23, 2003, at the South Lyon Medical Center's Long-Term Care unit in Yerington. He was born June 25, 1927, in Richmond, Calif., to Wheeler and Violet (Van Valer) Green.

He graduated from Modoc Union High School in Alturas, Calif. He joined the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Alabama during World War II. He was discharged in 1949.

After his discharge, he was an accountant for Simmons Mattress Co. In 1953, he moved to Richmond, where he became manager of a finance company. In 1975, he became a motel manager and moved to South Lake Tahoe, Calif. After his wife retiredfrom Harrah's in 1995, he moved to Yerington.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Wheeler, Don and Jarrett; sister, Violet; and son, Bruce in 1985.

Among his survivors are his wife of 56 years, Betty; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Michael Jones; grandson, Keith Trammell; granddaughters Lori Mauer and Mary Ann Key; and great-grandsons Danny Trammell, Gary, Eric and Kyler Key, Michael Mauer; and great-granddaughter, Barbi Mauer.

At his request, there will be no services.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
