Obituary: Dennis Thorpe

A memorial service for Dennis Michael "Mike" Thorpe, a Wyoming and Mesa and Concho, Ariz., resident for the past 28 years, will be today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel in St. Johns, Ariz.

Mr. Thorpe died May 29, 2003, in Concho. He was born May 28, 1944, in San Francisco to James and Mae Thorpe.

He married Frankie Parrish in Las Vegas in February 1965.

He graduated from Carson High School in June 1963. He then served in the Nevada Army National Guard until he joined the 82nd Airborn Paratroopers in 1965, retiring in 1970 after 14 years of service. During his service, he parachuted 499 times.

Mr. Thorpe was employed by Skidmore Construction Co. in Mesa for 22 years. He loved his family, his horse and animals.

Among his survivors are his wife of 38 years; parents of Carson City; sister, Susan Thorpe, of Carson City; daughters Joan, of Mesa and Sherry of Jackson, Wyo.; sons and daughters-in-law James and Christine of Rangely, Colo., and Michael and Kelly of Mesa; 12 grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carson City Advocates for Cancer Care or to Carson-Tahoe Hospital for diabetic care.

Jeweks Mortuary in Springerville, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.
