Obituary: Jerry L. Munk

A Mass of Christian burial for Jerry L. Munk, of Lovelock will be at 10 a.m. today at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lovelock.

Mr. Munk died June 6, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 21, 1927, to Lawrence and Margaret Fenton Munk of Lovelock.

He attended the City of San Francisco Junior College then the University of Nevada, Reno, where he was a member of the Wolf Pack football team. During his school years, he was active in athletics, and in his senior year he was named to the Nevada All State Football Team.

He married Audrey Westergard on Dec. 27, 1951, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Mr. Munk worked for Bell Telephone Co. of Nevada for 34 years. He was a radio repairman on the microwave stations and later was chief transmission man for the company in Lovelock. He retired in 1982.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 57 years and a past president. He was an active member of the Lovelock "Old Timers" baseball team, a member and past president of the Pershing County High School Alumni Association, and an active member of St. John the Baptist Church.

He worked with community youth for many years, coaching Little League, Babe Ruth baseball and other sports.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps.

Among his survivors are his wife of Lovelock; daughters Denice Davis of Sacramento and Danette Morgan of Minden; sons Jerry L. Jr. of Lovelock, Thomas R. of Reno and Jeffery H. of Lovelock; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Helen Marcucci of Lovelock.

Burial will be at Big Meadow Cemetery in Lovelock.
