City finance director to leave for Truckee

Dave Heath will leave July 3 after five years as Carson City's finance director to take a position with the city of Truckee, Calif., as director of administrative services.

"I really wasn't looking," Heath said. He put his name "in the basket" and thought the position would be a challenging career move, he said.

The move to Truckee will also be like "going home" in some ways. Heath, 45, has many childhood memories of the historic town. His parents had a vacation home there where he spent a lot of time growing up, he said. He is an avid skier and looks forward to being close to the slopes.

"I like the people up there a lot," Heath said. "It seemed like a good fit."

Heath worked through five city budgets during his time in Carson. This year's budget required dealing with declining revenues and several departmental cuts.

"He's been great to work with," said interim City Manager Andy Burnham. "He's developed a lot of trust with the city department. He's going to be missed a lot from our standpoint."

As director of administrative services in Truckee, Heath will be in charge of finance, human resources and risk management. His last day in Carson will be July 3 and he will start in Truckee July 7.

Heath said he enjoyed his time working for Carson, mostly because of the people.

"Carson's a good community," Heath said. "The people here are smart. It's got the lowest tax rate in the state. It's definitely a tight organization, in terms of doing things efficiently. I liked that."
