Highway 395 accident leaves woman in fair condition

A 31-year-old Crystal Bay woman was in Washoe Medical Center in fair condition Wednesday night after being injured when her sedan struck a pickup truck on Highway 395 at Stephanie Way.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Blair Harkleroad said a preliminary investigation shows that a brown Ford pickup driven by 23-year-old Joseph Tyler Apple was struck by a two-door sedan driven by Monique Renee Kendall of Crystal Bay when Apple pulled out in front of her.

Harkleroad said Apple was stopped in the left-turn lane at Stephanie and Highway 395. Kendall was northbound in the left lane approaching Stephanie when Apple pulled out. Kendall struck Apple on the left side of the truck and came to rest in the left travel lane facing north. The pickup came to rest in the southbound merge lane facing south.

Emergency crews had to cut Kendall from her car. Then she was flown to Washoe Medical Center by Care Flight.

Highway 395 was closed for 30 minutes so the helicopter could land.

Apple was not injured. Both were wearing their seat belts.

Charges are pending investigation, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
