Out & About

The Farmers Market is back at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park. A friend and I walked down to check out the fresh fruit and vegetables, and they had some great produce and cute arts and crafts booths.

It is every Wednesday, and, believe me, it was packed at opening time. We moseyed on in an hour before closing at 7:30 p.m. However, if you want to get the best produce before everyone else, the market opens at 3:30 p.m.

Speaking of fresh produce, there is a great program provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Services and the Nevada Division of Aging Services. This program provides fresh fruits and vegetables for seniors in Carson, Gardnerville, Minden, Dayton, Virginia City, Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Lockwood, Fallon, Winnemucca and Hawthorne.

Call the Ron Wood Family Resource Center for the new food program to help seniors and women with young children or infants. The next seminar to qualify is coming soon, and the food packages will start in July.

If your interest is cars, cruising and dancing, schedule a visit to Fuji Park this weekend and check out the Karson Kruzers annual Run What Cha Brung classic car show. Festivities include free dancing Friday and Saturday and the downtown car parade with the Kruzers.

However, cars are not the only reasons, to check out Fuji Park. At 1 p.m. Saturday there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the picnic pavilion to celebrate improvements to the park. It looks great. A big thank you for a job well done goes to all the people at Carson City's Parks and Recreation Department.
