Out & About: Community Calendar Of Events & Activities

Golf tournaments, wine, roses and Bubbles are back.

Two annual golf tournaments benefit local educational programs in Carson. The first one is the Leahy Golf Tournament. Lorraine Leahy, with the help of Joe Tresnit, started a Carson High School scholarship fund in honor of her children Patrick and Erin Leahy. The scholarship helps a student who cannot afford to attend the University of Reno.

The second event is Capital Auto Insurance's golf tournament, which benefits the Carson City School District Homeless Program by giving a high school student funds for a four-year vocational education. You can play in both of these tournaments because they are on different weekends at different local courses.

"Wine and Roses" is an annual event that was sorely missed last year. It will be held at the Governor's Mansion, instead of Genoa Lakes, this year . The event brings back the wonderful wines from Latcham, Granite Springs and Bouger wineries, just to name a few. This fund-raiser helps two very worthy causes: Make A Wish Foundation to help terminal ill children fulfill their dreams; and the Railway Association of Northern Nevada, which supports the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Project.

CASA has Bubbles the Clown for your next event. Invite the CASA Kids' Kiosk, and Bubbles will bring her balloons and face paints plus hand out valuable information on how you can help children in Carson City.
