Missing Michigan girl sighted in Northern California

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. -- The search for a missing 14-year-old Michigan girl continued Friday, as law enforcement officials chased after numerous would-be sightings.

None of them had panned out as of Friday afternoon. But an Amber Alert continued to flash on area freeways and law enforcement officials continued to check out numerous reports of white Dodge Dakota pickups.

"Everybody's looking, but so far there's been no positive sightings," said Nevada County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Powell.

Police have been searching for Lindsey Ryan, 14, and her alleged abductor Terry Drake, 56, a convicted killer.

Ryan had disappeared from her Jones, Mich., home early on March 1, reportedly stealing guns, ammunition and $4,000 in cash.

Police scoured campsites and motels here Thursday after the pair was spotted Tuesday at a Grass Valley motel.

An Amber Alert was issued for Ryan on Thursday morning, after employees at the Best Western Gold Country Inn reported late Wednesday that the two had checked in briefly at the Sutton Way motel on Tuesday.

Detectives and sheriff's patrol officers from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office were check out the leads all day Friday but were none confirmed.

"We're getting quite a few phone calls," said Powell. Authorities were also looking through campgrounds in the area.

As of Friday afternoon, the Grass Valley hotel sighting was still the last confirmed sighting of the two, said California Highway Patrol Spokesman Tom Marshall.

There have been a lot of reports and sightings, but nothing that can be confirmed as either Ryan or Drake, said Marshall.
