Ensign says attack on Iraq necessary

WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., said Wednesday night there was no way to avoid war with Iraq.

"War is always a last resort, and in this case, is absolutely necessary in order to avoid putting innocent Americans' lives at an unacceptable risk," Ensign said in a statement after the attack.

Ensign said the U.S. military is the most sophisticated and well-trained in the world. He said he is confident U.S. troops will succeed in their mission of disarming the Iraqi regime.

"Like most Americans, I am praying for our troops, for our president and for a quick end to this conflict," he said.
