Tahoe environmental program seeks $9.9 million in bonds for next biennium

Nevada State Lands Administrator Pam Wilcox asked lawmakers Monday to approve $9.87 million worth of bonds for Lake Tahoe environmental projects over the next two years.

She said Nevada already has provided $45 million for projects in the Tahoe basin. The state's share of the decade-long environmental program is $82 million. She said there are now 34 projects in progress.

Most of the money -- $7.3 million -- will go toward water-quality, erosion-control and stream-restoration projects. That includes projects along Highway 50 and the Mount Rose Highway and stream restoration along Third, Incline and Rosewood creeks.

Shorezone and stream restoration along Edgewood Creek will cost another $1 million.

A total of $700,000 is planned to continue five ongoing forest projects at Nevada State Park and $400,000 for completion of the Sand Harbor visitor Center.

The Senate Finance Committee took no action Monday on SB46.
