120 YEARS AGO

In reply to a letter of inquiry received at this office yesterday, the reader is informed that the cost of the senatorial ball was $440. Salt Lake Tribune says a specimen of the "angry tree," indigenous to Australia, is now growing on a farm in Nevada and is now eight feet high. When placed in new quarters, the leaves began to stand up in all directions, like the hair on the tail of an angry cat, and soon the whole plant begins to quiver (and give out a pungent odor).

Telegram from Elko says a well drilled a mile-and-a-half from town has encountered a good flow of oil.

70 YEARS AGO

Nicola Bisango, formerly a resident of Dayton and a Nevada resident since 1879, dies at the home of his son, Joseph Bisango, in Reno, at 80. He was engaged in ranching in Dayton, moving there from a ranch near Steamboat.

50 YEARS AGO

Budget director Arthur Suverkrup was out of his office due to the death of his father John W. Suverkrup, 83, of Gardnerville. He is to accompany the body to Indiana.

20 YEARS AGO

Saint Mary's Hospital in Reno has submitted a certificate of need to the state for $7 million in remodeling. The full cost could run to $24,363,975. Project affects buildings constructed in 1929, 1937 and 1950; safety, work flow and efficiency.

10 YEARS AGO
