Yerington plant may be closed

PolyOne Corp.

said last week it will close its engineered films plant in Yerington by the end of the second quarter if it can't find a buyer for the plant.

The Yerington plant empoys approximately 85 people.

Thomas A.Waltermire, chairman and chief executive officer of the company based in Cleveland, said the potential closure reflects slow sales and tightening margins.

The facility produces a variety of film products, including film for bookbinder covers.

PolyOne projects that closing the Yerington plant would improve its pre-tax earnings by $1.8 million.

Employees affected by a Yerington closing would be eligible for severance benefits and outplacement services, and also would be eligible to apply for jobs at other locations within the Engineered Films business group, the company said.
