A great time was had at the Vanderhyde party. The trouble began with a hobby-horse quadrille, for which, according to the graphic account, a lot of society people dressed up as horses with real horse hides and flowing tails and manes. Commodore Vanderbilt then danced a sailor's hornpipe and turned some handsprings.

100 YEARS AGO

The Journal: Yesterday, the electric light people were putting up new arc lights all over the place. The light is steadier and does not require the attention that the old one did. Plumbers organize for Reno and Carson with Ed Schmidtt, president.

70 YEARS AGO

Ogden L. Mills, secretary of the treasury under President Hoover's administration, will be in Carson, he has notified the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. He will spend one or two days inspecting his property holdings in the district.

50 YEARS AGO

Births: Mr. and Mrs. John Foster, boy, March 27, Carson-Tahoe Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Chichester of Coleville, boy, March 27, Carson-Tahoe. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Frederick Muller, son, March 28, Oakland; he is the grandson of Mrs. Honora Muller.

Minden Mission Hot Springs will feature geothermal and solar heat on end of Johnson Lane, developer Phil Carter told Douglas County Planning Commission. It is in the $75,000 range.

10 YEARS AGO

Channel changes were announced by TCI Cablevision in Carson City today. A new "basic" level at $10.40 a month.
