Obituary: Jeanne Duncan

A memorial service for Jeanne E. Duncan, 92, a native Nevadan and longtime Reno resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at O'Brien-Rogers & Crosby Funeral Home in Reno.

Mrs. Duncan died May 6, 2003, in Carson City. She was born Nov. 21, 1910, in Virginia City to Eugene V. and Lillian Farnsworth Bonafous.

She moved to Carson City in 1914 with her parents. They purchased the well-known White House Hotel just south of the State Capitol. She attended local schools and graduated from Carson High School.

Mrs. Duncan worked for the state of Nevada during the administration of Gov. Fred B. Balzar in the Motor Vehicle/Secretary of State's Office, which was combined at that time. She was also an experienced beautician and attended beauty school in Los Angeles.

She married John F. Duncan on Sept. 22, 1935, at a private family wedding in the "White House."

In Reno, she worked for First National Bank of Nevada and retired in 1975 after 23 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, Joe Bonafous; and sister, Lillian Koskela.

Among her survivors are her niece Lila Brown and husband Tom; niece Joyce Smith and great-nephew Dale Brown and wife Susan, all of Carson City; great-niece, Valerie Mastelotto and husband Rocky of Sparks; great-nephew, Ian K. Smith and wife Monelle of Lynnwood, Wash.; two great-great nieces; and four great-great nephews.

Private burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice in Carson City.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
