A 17-year-old Carson High School student was arrested Wednesday night on allegations that he set fire to a classmate in auto-shop class.
Police were called to the victim's home at 8:20 p.m. after his parents reported the incident.
According to the report, the 17-year-old used a can of aerosol carburetor cleaner and a match to create a makeshift torch and set the victim's pant leg on fire.
The victim extinguished the fire. The report does not list any injuries.
The 17-year-old was arrested and sent to juvenile detention on charges of arson.
Carson High School Principal Glen Adair said he knew little more than the report detailed.
"The boy that perpetrated this, I understand, was detained by juvenile justice and will stand accountable for this foolishness."
Dean Pat Houlihan handled the case.
"We're trying to resolve the situation to make sure it doesn't happen again," he said.
