Silver Springs man arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography

A Silver Springs man was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly possessing child pornography.

James W. Leinberger Sr., 56, was taken into custody about 9 a.m. after Lyon County Sheriff's deputies, in a joint investigation with the FBI, went to his West Silver Springs home on information that he was involved in an Internet news group exchanging pornography.

Sheriff's Investigator Robin Hall said Leinberger cooperated with authorities who found "multiple images" of child pornography on his computer.

"A lot of these photographs were of the 'obvious' (prepubescent) nature," Hall said.

Leinberger, who moved to Nevada from San Jose, Calif., is retired from the military, Hall said.

He was being held on one count of possession of child pornography in the Lyon County Jail on $100,000 bail.

Leinberger is the second Lyon County resident to be charged in a case in cooperation with the FBI.

Ivan Bennett, 56, was arrested March 6 by Lyon County sheriff's investigators.

Lyon investigator Ron Hall said the FBI was involved in a bigger child porn investigation when it discovered Bennett's involvement in a Yahoo news group in which members exchange child porn.

Bennett remains in jail on a $20,000 bail and will be sentenced May 28.
