Chase ends peacefully

A rush-hour police chase from Lyon County into Carson City -- and back -- ended peacefully on Thursday, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies and a member of the Crisis Negotiating Unit responded to a report of a suicidal male with a gun traveling west on U.S. Highway 50 East just before 6 p.m. The man had his two young children with him in the vehicle and he refused to stop when deputies activated their lights and sirens, deputies said.

When he finally responded to a deputy's verbal request to pull over he complied, but stopped only long enough to let the children out of the vehicle. He then speeded away into Carson City, according to deputies.

He returned to the original sit of the traffic stop within several minutes and was finally detained by authorities.

The man, who wasn't identified, was transported to Carson-Tahoe Hospital for treatment for a drug overdose and a mental evaluation, deputies added.
