Obituary: Mass for Robert V. West

A funeral Mass for Robert V. West, 82, a Gardnerville resident for the past 10 years, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Gall.

There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Gall.

Mr. West died May 21, 2003, at Tahoe Pacific Hospital in Sparks. He was born May 20, 1921, in Cushing, Okla., to William W. and Florence Warren West.

He attended Perkins High School in Perkins, Okla.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Lakewood, Calif., for 37 years.

Mr. West worked at Union Oil for five years, McDonnell-Douglas four years and the Long Beach Shipyard for 27 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8583 and served as commander for three years. He was also a member of the America Legion and the Elks Club. He was a Catholic and a member of St. Gall.

He served in the U.S. Navy for three years in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur and a grandson David Robert West.

Among his survivors are his wife, Genevieve, of Gardnerville; son, Victor of Carrollton, Texas; daughters, Tina Tripp, of Denver, Kathleen Steinert, of Chandler, Ariz., and Linda Murvin, of Chester, Va.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Burial will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville is in charge of arrangements.
