Dayton woman shows her love for Nevada on TV

When Norine Krulevitch moved to Dayton a year and a half ago, she had an idea. She wanted to start a television show to highlight local musicians and artists.

Her Monday and Tuesday community access television show "Variety Artists Tonight" does just that, she says. And it's growing.

She and her co-host, Ronni Hannaman, learned last week that their coverage will now include Douglas County and Reno/Sparks and Incline Village cable channels. Their show is also broadcast from Dayton to Jacks Valley on Mondays. All this has happened in two months.

"We're very excited about our news," beamed Krulevitch. "We have covered all of Northern Nevada. We are thrilled."

She moved out from San Rafael County, Calif. where she was an agent for 25 bands. She also helped run J.K. Timepieces, a jewelry shop owned by Jerry Krulevitch whom she has lived with for 24 years.

Her television show "Variety Artists Tonight" is a non-profit organization funded by sponsors. The one-hour broadcast opens with Norine doing a segment on a musician or band.

"Any musicians that want to come on, I like to give them a chance," she said. She lets them play and interviews them. Then Hannaman takes over. The second half of the show is all interviews -- from local business people to participants of events.

"Norine and Ronni," as they call each other on the set because it's more personal, are not stuck in a studio.

From Carson Lanes bowling alley to the Nevada Appeal job fair at the community center, the pair have taken their show on the road.

Sunday they filmed at Pure Country, a dancehall and saloon in Sparks. Their guest was Eddie Floyd of the Nevada Matters radio talk show.

On Thursday they'll film a performance by the Gold Hill Theatre Troupe at the Gold Hill Hotel. The one-hour performance will run in a two part series, Krulevitch figures.

Then after a show taped at the Gold Canyon Steakhouse in her hometown of Dayton, she says they're scheduled to film every Sunday in June at Pure Country.

"So put on your boots and start kicking," she laughed.

They have done interviews with Mayor Ray Masayko, Sheriff Ken Furlong and Assemblyman Ron Knecht, R-Carson City as well as local big band the Tune Toppers.

Krulevitch said moving to Nevada is the best thing she's ever done.

"Where else can you have the mayor just walk casually onto your show? What more can you ask for?"

She also likes not having to pay for parking.

She insisted on thanking the volunteers who work on her show, Elette Hudson, Hollie Holles, Sandy Repp and Jan Van Matre of Dayton and Rebecca Hudson of Reno.

Krulevitch, who is about to become a great grandmother in her mid-sixties, has two adult children. Her son Frederick lives in Las Vegas and her daughter Wendy lives in Seminole, Florida. They are both married.

She is open to calls from people interested in being on or sponsoring her show. For more information, call 246-3540.

"You never know who's going to be on my show," she smiled. "It could be you."
