John Vierra, the barber, a few days since, tried to blast a corn out of one of his toes with gun powder, and the shock was so great, it temporarily injured one of his eyes. This is a new but very unsafe corn remedy.

100 YEARS AGO

The President's visit. Carson had the honor of entertaining President Theodore Roosevelt. The fact that Carson was one of the honored cities of the state was an honor in itself. Roosevelt's talk was more on the order of a business talk, the talk of one man to another. He dwelt on the benefits of the federal aid to irrigation.

70 YEARS AGO

Governor Balzar, noting Monday was one day before Memorial Day, named the period due to existing conditions in the state, of Saturday, May 27, to and including Tuesday, May 30 as vacation holidays, marking the commencement of the summer season.

50 YEARS AGO

Four Carsonites are out of service, says Brig. Gen. James A. May. They include Chas R. Schlapkohl, Army, Edgar McNeil and Arnold Odermatt, Navy, both Koren War veterans, Ernest Stirman, Air Force and Fred C. Leiker, Marines.

20 YEARS AGO

Two-year-old Dylan Wiggins is beginning a new round of drug treatment and chemotherapy for leukemia. The Optimist Club fund is down to $50. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Wiggins, who own L.A. Video. His physician is Dr. Stuart Stoloff.

10 YEARS AGO

Virginia City, the whole town will come alive next week with Founders Day, with 20 town characters being elected and votes selling for $1 each. Admission to a "riotous" reception at the Mackay Mansion is a $1 bribe.
