Help a needy vet at benefit

Tuesday is Veterans Day. To help a needy vet, go to the Elks Lodge's annual Veterans Day celebration dinner. Proceeds go to help the Carson City Senior Citizens Center's Meals on Wheels Program, which provides meals to homebound seniors.

Carson High School's annual two-day Christmas crafts fair is this weekend. If you are looking for a unique gift, look over the booths of 150 crafters displaying their unique gifts. Bring the children, too, as Santa Claus will be flying in for photos and to hear their Christmas wishes. Bring a can of food to be donated to FISH's food bank and receive a discount on admission.

This time of year, I get calls from people and organizations wanting to adopt families. Salvation Army adopts families out to groups, churches, law firms and other organizations after a thorough background check.

The Army tries very hard to get the essentials first then the extras. A local law firm last year sponsored a family of five, providing everything, even the wish-list items. The items did not need to be duplicated by another agency so streamlining calls to designated resources already equipped to handle this is a good way of spreading the giving. Check with FISH and the Salvation Army for a family you can adopt for the holidays.

What: Donate a prepared traditional Thanksgiving dinner from Albertsons on South Carson Street; ask for Kristi. Includes all the trimmings. Delivered to family unable to prepare a Thanksgiving meal.
