Krolicki opens the New York Stock Exchange today

Nevada Treasurer Brian Krolicki will ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange today, signaling the opening of the day's trading.

Being named to ring the opening bell is considered an honor. But Krolicki said most important on the day's agenda is a meeting with NYSE chairman John Reed and other officials about the overhaul of rules governing the exchange.

"Ringing the bell is ceremonial," he said. "However, this visit with NYSE officials culminates a year's worth of work."

Krolicki, as president of the National Association of State Treasurers, has been working with NYSE to ensure corporations adhere to higher ethical standards and restore investor confidence in the system.

The treasurers' association is a key player in those discussions since, collectively, the 50 state treasurers manage and invest more than $1 trillion.
