A huge THANK YOU to Gerald Weece of Dayton who returned my wallet and cell phone on Monday after I left them on the hood of my car and drove off. Weece found them within minutes and dropped them off at the Appeal. There were no bills in the wallet when I got it back -but there were no bills when I lost it either.

Carson City's Heritage Bank of Nevada is part art gallery. The bank showcases local artists, putting up new works every six months.
The current show is a collection of 68 paintings by local women. Janice Frost has several watercolors of Carson Valley barns. Vilma Weneck and Bev Van Sickle are showing oil paintings of exotic animals. Anna Darden is showing work in pencil and pastel. Janice Shedd and Linda Townsend are showing watercolors of aspen trees and the ghost town of Bodie, respectively.
The bank held a reception for the artists on Dec. 4. Invited guests - friends of the artists and bank customers - enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine.
"It was a sensational reception," said branch manager Rosemary Krystofiak. "We had more than 100 people here. It was the best one we've ever had."
Heritage Bank of Nevada, at 4222 S. Carson St., has shown local art since it opened about two years ago. The main branch in Reno has been showing art for eight years.
The works are available for sale and the public is welcome to take a look. Some of the original 68 paintings in the current show were sold Dec. 4.
"Some people who bought paintings wanted them right away so they could use them as Christmas presents, but for the most part the original show is still up," said teller Carol Ann Evans.
The paintings will be up until Jan. 2, when work by Mady Garner of Minden will be put up.
Krystofiak says finding artists is never a problem. Once they hear about the free showing and the reception the bank provides, they come running.
"I don't have to find artists, they find me," she said. "I have a file that is bursting with information on different artists that all want their work shown at Heritage bank."

Tonight is the last theater performance at the Gold Hill Hotel before its winter break.
"Because of the holidays and Christmas parties, we stop our plays for a while then we bring them back in the spring," said receptionist Melody Reynolds.
The Gold Hill Theater Troupe will perform "The Christmas Treasure," directed by Michele Geller-Reynolds of Dayton and Jeanne Webber of Virginia City. The one-act play is described as a "robbery attempt and treasure hunt gone awry."
The show starts at 8, but if you plan to eat, arrive by 5. If you just want to see the play, tickets are $5. There is a "play special" including dinner and tickets to the play for $18.50. You have three choices: New York steak, chicken picatta or a salmon fillet. Each comes with homemade soup or salad.
Diners will then proceed to the "Great Room" parlor (built in 1859) for the show. As the name implies, the Gold Hill Hotel also offers rooms.
"A lot of times, people come up stay the night," said Reynolds. "That way they don't have to drive off the mountain."
