MOUND HOUSE " A husband and wife were shot and killed Tuesday and their 7-year-old son was shot in the back by an unknown assailant, the Lyon County Sheriff's office said.
Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Cupp said a 12-year-old daughter called authorities to report the shooting at the family's home. The parents' bodies were found in the kitchen and the boy in the living room of the home. Cupp said the girl had locked herself in her bedroom during the shootings.
The boy was flown by helicopter to the intensive care unit at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. "He's alive but in critical condition," Cupp said.
Authorities questioned the girl but Cupp said she didn't witness the shootings and "she's not able to give us much." He said neighbors in the area, just east of Carson City and near the Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel, also were being questioned.
"We do have some leads that we're following up on, but nothing solid yet," Cupp said. "We're still gathering a lot of information."
Names of the victims weren't immediately released, pending notification of other family members.
