Water line breaks at college

A leak discovered in a water line at Western Nevada Community College early Wednesday morning left much of the college without water for most of the day.

Students and staff in the Aspen, Bristlecone and Cedar buildings were without running water and bathroom services. They were told to use facilities in the Reynolds Building or the new library.

"It's an inconvenience to our students, but we're working to resolve it," said spokeswoman Anne Hansen. "No problems have been reported as a result of it."

The coffee cart usually set up by Java Joe's shut down for the day.

Workers discovered the leak in a water line buried about three feet behind the Aspen Building. Officials determined the break was probably a result of fluctuating pressure.

Although the leak did not cause flooding, a fire hydrant in front of the Cedar Building was opened to release pressure from the broken line during repairs.

The water was shut off at 10 a.m. and was supposed to be restored to all buildings on campus by 4 p.m.
