The newest addition to Carson-Tahoe Hospital's Regional Medical Center - a short-stay surgical hospital - will add another dimension to the full-service medical complex being built in North Carson City.
A groundbreaking ceremony for Carson Surgical Hospital is 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday.
The hospital is designed to significantly cut medical costs for surgical patients, said Ed Epperson, C-TH chief executive officer.
"I think this hospital will give patients a high-quality, cost-effective alternative for less complicated surgeries," he said. "And they can be reassured by the fact that a comprehensive facility is right across the street."
Based on surgical care's most exciting new trend, this hybrid hospital is mid-point between an ambulatory surgery center and a traditional hospital. It offers the most affordable care possible for non-urgent procedures normally requiring less than a four-night hospital stay.
Just south of Carson-Tahoe's proposed regional medical center, the 49,000-square-foot center will house six operating rooms, nine to 15 post-operative beds, two minor- procedure rooms, nine to 15 inpatient rooms, a pharmacy, a laboratory and radiological equipment including MRI and CT scans.
The project is a joint venture between the physicians of Carson Ambulatory Surgery Center and Carson-Tahoe Hospital.
