Injury accident snarls Highway 395 commute

MINDEN -- Drivers of two vehicles received minor injuries after a collision at Highway 395 and Genoa Lane about 7:55 a.m. Tuesday that backed up morning commute traffic.

Katie Downes, 18, of Genoa was cited for failing to yield after she turned onto Genoa Lane in front of a vehicle driven by Carolee Freeman, 69, of Gardnerville, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Both Downes and Freeman were taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

Damage to both cars was described as major by NHP Trooper Blair Harkleroad. Downes' vehicle was hit on the front passenger side. Her front fender came off, he said.

Freeman's vehicle traveled down the median and then came to rest in a southbound lane.

Traffic was slowed after the accident, but the lanes were never closed, according to Harkleroad.
